Inversion of electrical capacitance tomography data by simulated annealing: Application to real two-phase gas–oil flow imaging

چکیده
In this work we apply a highly optimized simulated annealing (SA) inversion method to the reconstruction of permittivity images from real two-phase gas–oil flow electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) data. We test the SA inversion method using several flow regimes generated by varying gas and oil flow rates in a test loop facility. The SA-based permittivity inversions have some advantages over other reconstruction approaches based on linear least-squares inversion: they can find good solutions starting with poor initial models, can easily implement complex a priori information, and do not introduce smoothing effects in the final permittivity distribution model. A major disadvantage comes from the fact that SA is computationally very intensive and leads to relatively slow reconstructions when calculation of the forward problem is not very fast. In this work we employ a linearized and numerically improved forward model based on the use of a sensitivity matrix. We find this novel approach to be faster and more accurate than traditional linear methods. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

ECT and LS-SVM Based Void Fraction Measurement of Oil-Gas Two-Phase Flow
A method based on Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) and an improved Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM) is proposed for void fraction measurement of oil-gas two-phase flow. In the modeling stage, to solve the two problems in LS-SVM, pruning skills are employed to make LS-SVM sparse and robust; then the Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm is introduced to solve the difficult problem...
متن کاملTwo - phase oil – gas pipe flow imaging by simulated annealing
We introduce a numerically improved image reconstruction technique for imaging two-phase oil–gas pipe flows using electrical capacitance tomography, based on simulated annealing and iterative linear forward modelling. In the simulated annealing method, a permittivity image is reconstructed by minimizing iteratively an energy function related to the difference between the measured ECT data and t...
متن کاملMultiphase Flow Imaging by Capacitance Tomography Using Simulated Annealing Inversion
Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) is a technique for obtaining crosssectional images of the electrical permittivity distribution inside an electrically non-conducting body. It can be used to map the composition of two-phase mixtures like gas-oil systems and provides a useful tool for multiphase flow visualization and measurement and potential applications in petroleum industry. The ECT se...

Electrical-capacitance tomography (ECT) is a novel technique for the non-invasive internal visualization of industrial processes such as mixing, separation and multiphase flow, involving electrically nonconducting mixtures. One of the most promising potential applications of ECT is the determination of the amount of gas, oil and water produced by an oil well. The principle of ECT is to place a ...

The tomographic imaging of process parameters for oil-gas-water three-phase flow can be obtained through different sensing modalities, such as electrical resistance tomography (ERT) and electrical capacitance tomography (ECT), both of which are sensitive to specific properties of the objects to be imaged. However, it is hard to discriminate oil, gas and water phases merely from reconstructed im...
